One of the accusations most commonly leveled at people with disabilities is that “they are always moaning”. Some people think that they’re forever grumbling about how others are thoughtless and selfish, about how environments are often inaccessible, about how poverty-stricken they are and about how life generally can be a real pain in the butt.
Much of this is undoubtedly true. Living life without your body or all your senses in tip-top shape can be extremely challenging.
And a lot of what I will say in subsequent blogs will touch on all of this. However, I would suggest that it’s completely wasted emotional energy to harp on about your lot.
Yes, life can be very hard going – there’s no escaping that. And we are all going to moan about many things from time to time. But, unless this is framed with a broadly positive outlook on existence, you might as well throw in the towel.
You need a glass half-full attitude.
